Ricarda's 134

Located in the heart of the entertainment district at the iconic QRC West tower, Ricarda’s 134 found home in its namesake address. The Mediterranean restaurant was built on the ground floor of the historic brick and beam Weston Biscuit Factory building.

The open concept kitchen is surrounded by porcelain counter “experience booths” where guests are entertained by chefs performing their culinary arts. Intricate walnut fluting line the face of all vertical counters, including the expansive 8-person booths in the dining room. A condensed project schedule required exacting coordination with all stake holders to work in harmony to meet the grand opening date.

The kitchen exhaust fan & ecology unit located on the mechanical penthouse required an integrated approach with engineers, facility management, and the manufacturer to ensure the successful installation of this mission critical component.

Attico, Ricarda’s cocktail bar was constructed in the atrium mezzanine level. In order to transform the bar into a glowing showpiece easily accessed for future services, outside of the box thinking led to custom millwork trays to house accessible LED underlighting for onyx bar tops, resulting in a stunning solid surface that illuminated during evening service.

Workopolis

Workopolis relocated their headquarters to the Toronto Star building. Previously home to a cafeteria serving the building’s tenants, the 30-year old kitchen underwent extensive demolition to remove the existing facilities. Modifications to the HVAC system, including the addition of a separate cooling unit to accommodate town hall meetings were installed in the new servery. All mechanical and electrical services were relocated under the slab to facilitate the new open ceiling concept, requiring extensive core drilling and coordination accessing the occupied tenant space below. In addition to white boards being installed throughout the wall spaces, all offices and breakout rooms were fitted with full height writable glass doors and sidelites.
